Rodrigo Garcia (Things You Can Tell Just by Looking at Her, Nine Lives) explores with compassion, insight and heartrending realism the lives and complex emotions of three women (Naomi Watts, Annette Bening and Kerry Washington, all excellent) affected in one way or another by the impact of adoption. The three tales eventually connect, for a perhaps too tidy denouement, but they don’t really need to. The supporting cast is large and gifted (Samuel L. Jackson, Jimmy Smits, Cherry Jones, Elpedia Carrillo, David Morse), but each is important to the story as a whole. Shareeka Epps is especially strong as a pregnant teen.
