A young, affluent, middle-class American mother (a big break for TV comedienne Kathryn Hahn) who’s getting no satisfaction from her husband gets it into her head that a visit to a strip club will arouse them. There, she gets a lap dance from a baby-faced cutie (the perfectly cast Juno Temple) and, long story short, invites the woman home to stay with them with the vague idea of “helping” her.
Turns out the girl is a “full-service sex worker,” who needs no help. Cultures humorously clash. It’s all offbeat fun until a bizarre, dramatic turn in the third act undermines all the good feelings, but worth a look. Japanese title: Gogo Sanji no Onna tachi. (98 min)
