Shelter (2026)

Jason Statham, it has been said, only makes one movie, and does it over and over. But his fans don’t seem to mind (you know who you are), so why should I? 

This time he plays a reclusive, highly skilled former government assassin who’s supposed to be dead, holed up on a deserted lighthouse rock in Scotland’s Orkney Islands. His carefully orchestrated cover is blown when a young supply girl unknowingly triggers some high-tech recognition and tracking program, and the two find themselves on the very violent run. They, of course, bond.

It’s the expected one-man army stuff, no better or worse than usual, with lots of shootin’, killin’, chop-sockey and dreadful dialogue. But Statham fans don’t go to the movies for the words. That said, the whole thing is elevated considerably by a spot-on performance by Bohdi Rae Breathnach as the feisty lass, and Bill Nighy, reveling in the role of coldhearted MI5 villain. (107 min)
