In the Grey

It means grey areas.

An elite team of good-looking secret operatives is sent to steal back a billion dollars from a ruthless despot. Two hunky guys, the muscle, are tasked with protecting and extracting a lady lawyer once the mission is done.

The first half of Guy Ritchie’s new B-movie sails right along, as they set about planning and endlessly rehearsing their impossibly complex heist. Ritchie excels at this kind of snappy dialog and nimble editing, and it’s a fun watch.

Jake Gyllenhaal and Henry Cavill earn their paychecks as the two commando types, and I’ll watch anything the show-stealing Eiza Gonzales is in (3 Body Problem).

Kind of a pity, then, to see this locomotive run out of steam (and ideas) for the final chapter, and descend into a kind of utterly uninvolving, generic John Wick ripoff. A bit too much shooting and killing of less good-looking minions for me but competently done. (98 min)
