Widely lauded for his work in European film and theater, Mario Martone directs the NNTT in a production of Verdi’s Otello, based on Shakespeare’s depiction of the tragic Moorish general. Wielding the baton will be young conductor Riccardo Frizza, whose rendition of Aida at the NNTT proved a smash. The formidable Stephen Gould stars as the eponymous hero, with Norma Fantini as his ill-fated wife Desdemona. Incidentally, the production marks Hiroshi Wakasugi’s last season as artistic director at the NNTT.
