When a movie is this rotten on so many levels it’s difficult to decide where to start. Catherine Hardwicke, who inflicted upon us Twilight, brings her interspecies dating problems to the Grimm Brothers’ classic tale, making the wolf a werewolf, creating a love triangle among the title character (Amanda Seyfried) and a pair of hunky pieces of wood, casting Gary Oldman in full hambone mode, and throwing in a witch hunt and a giant metal elephant for good measure. We’re talking M. Night bad here. Self-serious, dull, phony, and cheesy SFX. Positive: cool set design, and GILF Julie Christie makes a great grandma.
