Celebrated American actor Robert De Niro has been named the president of the jury for the 64th Cannes Film Festival, which will be held May 11-22. The Untouchables star is no stranger to Cannes—he first visited in 1976, when the Martin Scorsese-directed Taxi Driver won the prestigious Palme d’Or award, and he returned to head the jury twice during the peak of his career in the ’80s. De Niro (right) also founded the Tribeca Film Festival in 2002 as a way to foster New York’s movie industry in the wake of the 9-11 terrorist attacks, and recently started the Doha Tribeca Film Festival in Qatar. Last year’s Cannes jury was headed by Alice in Wonderland director Tim Burton.
