Sound Live Tokyo presents a weekend of boundary-pushing music in Ueno. The new festival opens Friday evening with music from New York-based avant-garde pianist Masabumi Kikuchi. Saturday continues with Project Undark, a unit formed by vocalist Phew with cartoonist Erika Kobayashi and producer Dieter Moebius, as well as Maher Shalal Hash Baz. The event wraps up Sunday with sets by veteran Arab-Malay music group Baby Arabia and abstract sound artists Sangatsu [pictured]. An exhibition and concert of British artist Tim Etchells’ Wall of Sound, based on songs “used as protection,” rounds out the weekend.
