Get off to a modish start to the year with American songstress St. Vincent. A former backup singer with Polyphonic Spree and Sufjan Stevens, St. Vincent (Annie Clark) was already a certified indie-rock-tronica goddess on the strengths her 2007 debut Marry Me. This summer’s third outing Strange Mercy only confirms her legitimate talents, which range on songs like “Cruel” from a lovely gossamer voice to incisive, informed lyrics. Doesn’t hurt that she also possesses the looks of a model.
