Opened late last month in Jiyugaoka, TWG Tea (1-9-8 Jiyugaoka, Meguro-ku; www.twgtea.com) is the first Tokyo branch of the famed Singapore tea company. The new salon-boutique offers over 260 blends created from 800 varieties of leaves. Order the teapot service (¥800) and choose from the likes of Singapore Breakfast Tea (green and black teas blended with vanilla and Asian spices), Alexandria Tea (green tea with mint and Mediterranean spices) or Bain de Rose Tea (Darjeeling with vanilla and rose). The sweets menu features macaroons (¥200)—said to be the best in all of Singapore—crème brule (¥600) and chocolate fondant (¥600). A tea pastry service (¥550) offers a choice of two cakes served with jam and whipped cream. Teas and accessories are available to take home, with a dedicated specialist to help you make your selection. All TWG Tea’s bags are hand-sewn with 100 percent cotton; no glue is used.
