Slack, outdated Cold War potboiler has a retired CIA agent (a sleepwalking Richard Gere) being called back to find an elusive Soviet assassin named Cassius, a monster he personally shot and killed 20 years ago. The Big Twist is revealed early in the film (but not here) in order build suspense as the story unfolds. Doesn’t. And there’s an even more ludicrous twist at the end. The bad guy actually uses a wire hidden in a wristwatch to slit his victims’ throats! The hotshot FBI analyst Gere’s assigned to work with is played by Topher Grace, while Detroit is somewhat more convincing as Washington DC.
