Fed up with the high cost of renting gallery space in Tokyo, a band of young artists came together in 2005 to form DanDans. The group holds exhibitions at unconventional locations, including a Ginza tailor shop, a model home and the former French Embassy, which provided a canvas for the widely praised “No Man’s Land” show in 2009. For their upcoming exhibit, DanDans have snagged an invitation to luxury brand Bulgari’s tony private lounge. Artists like Hisako Matsumoto (pictured) will be on hand to talk about their creations, ranging from oil painting and nihonga to sculpture, video, photography, mixed media and installations.
