This ain’t yer mother’s K-pop. The last weekend of the month provides the rare opportunity to gauge the songwriting skills of an artist from the Seoul underground. Amature Amplifier is the stage name of Vad Hahn [pictured], a one-man band whose shaggy looks and unpolished sound—some call it 21st century Korean post-folk—provide an antidote to the cyborg clones that populate the world of K-pop. He’ll be performing an acoustic set on Jan 26 at Forestlimit in Hatagaya followed by an electronic set under his “Yamagata Tweakster” DJ name with countryman Wedance at Earthdom in Shinokubo the following night.
