This blockbuster collaboration by Horipro and the Royal Shakespeare Company chronicles the adventures of the “blue-eyed samurai,” William Adams, a British navigator who sailed to Japan in 1600 and eventually became an advisor to the shogun Ieyasu Tokugawa. The bilingual (albeit largely Japanese) production examines the life of a man who served as a vital conduit for Western culture—and, later, the basis for James Clavell’s Shogun. Directed by the RSC’s Gregory Doran and starring Owen Teale as Adams and Masachika Ichimura as Tokugawa.
