Songs with titles like “The Internet is for Porn” are being belted out by a star cast at Tokyo International Forum this week, as Broadway hit Avenue Q reaches the end of its first Japan run. Created by composers Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, along with playwright Jeff Whitty, the show uses Sesame Street-style puppets to portray a cast of aimless, underemployed New York college grads searching for meaning in life—and a good lay. Since its 2003 debut, the play has been lionized as the first adult Broadway musical since Rent, though we don’t remember Jonathan Larson’s rock opera having puppet sex in it.
