This may be the era of cultural fusion, but seldom has such a mellifluous synthesis been created as the combination of Malian kora player Ballake Sissoko and French cellist Vincent Segal. The pair have recently been acclaimed for their album Chamber Music, which sets the ethereal, harp-like sounds of Sissoko’s kora against Segal’s moody, elegant cello. Adding a third cultural dimension to this week’s concert in Aoyama, the pair are to be joined by domestic sax player and adept improviser Yasuaki Shimizu.
