Promoter Plankton has pulled out the stops for its long-running Celtic Christmas, booking the sumptuous Triphony Hall for this year’s event. After the Irish uilleann pipes, fiddles and flutes of repeat performers Lúnasa, Valravn (Danish for “raven of the slain”) promise to raise eyebrows with their electronica-influenced take on the traditional music of Denmark and the Faroe Islands. Singer Anna Katrin Egilstrod boasts a voice that approaches the power of Björk’s, while audiences may be thrown for a loop by Lau (above), a Scottish contemporary folk trio who are known for their sudden detours into free-jazz chaos.
