It’s a rare meeting of east and west—but not the kind that first comes to mind. Geisha from Tokyo’s traditional Shimbashi district will perform classical dance with geiko from Kyoto in an unusual meeting of Kanto and Kansai tradition. The show takes place in the Imperial Hotel’s gorgeous Peacock Room, and will be followed by a dinner of French and Japanese kaiseki cuisine. The dancers will allow viewers to compare and contrast Tokyo’s showy Azuma Odori with Kyoto’s more stately Miyako Odori style.

Imperial Hotel, Aug 25. (listings).
