Db-ll-Bass—Sound, Body, and Instrument
From musical instrument to dance partner

Under the direction of Turkish choreographer Aydin Teker, avant-garde musician Jun Kawasaki’s bass becomes more of a dance partner than a musical instrument. The pair came together in Istanbul to debut their piece at the Akbank Jazz Festival and now bring it to Tokyo. Db-ll-bass—sound, body, and instrument grows out of a one-year collaboration between Teker and Kawasaki, and sees Kawasaki wielding his bass like a prop to be tipped upside down, hidden behind, lifted, lashed, and sometimes even played.
