Those unable to make it out to this weekend’s Summer Sonic have the opportunity to catch several bands on the bill in “Summer Sonic Extra” gigs in downtown Tokyo. Among the best post-fest gigs is this two-fer pairing of Atlanta-born Deerhunter with California’s The Morning Benders. The two bands couldn’t offer a greater contrast, with ecstatic psychedelic rockers Deerhunter selling out halls across Japan, and the ironic The Morning Benders’ Japan debut all the more looked forward to after a scheduled gig was canceled following the 3/11 disaster.
