Overseas study can have a profound effect on artists—or not. Judge for yourself at the National Art Center, Tokyo’s annual “Domani” exhibition. Each year the Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs gives emerging artists an opportunity to travel overseas and study under specialists in their field to support “individuals who will build the foundations of the future Japanese art world.” 12 artists are represented in a wide range of media from Yutaka Sone’s sculpture to Maya Yonesho’s animation on to Misako Jin’s Japanese painting.
