Part of Governor Ishihara’s Tokyo Culture Creation Project is the Tokyo Traditional Performing Arts Program, which sheds light on what are fast becoming obscure art forms for modern Japanese. “Elegance of Kyoto” presents an evening of the stately traditional music and dance of Japan’s ancient capital, with appearances among others by ikkan flute player Meisho Tosha and Kyoto dancer Yachiyo Inoue. The performance is preceded Aug 20-21 with a two-day “Weekend of Traditional Japanese Music,” and numerous other shows are scheduled for the fall.
