Where are you from? I’m from Shibuya and I live in Nerima-ku now, so Tokyo fashion is something I’ve been familiar with for a long time.
Tell us about your time overseas. I spent one year in America, way out in the countryside. I’d always wanted to live in a neighborhood with bright green lawns, like in those cheesy American teenage movies. School life in America is exciting and less stressful than Japan, so I really enjoyed it, but I felt like everyone was just buying the same clothes from Abercrombie & Fitch.
What kinds of people are you interested in shooting? My street snap photos are physical representations of my communication with people. I look for lots of things—eccentric and high-fashion people, the kind of fashion you can only find in Japan, or sometimes just people who fit my personal tastes.
What are your goals? I want to be active in all areas of multimedia. Of course, working in fashion and photography would be great, but I also like the music and entertainment industries, so I’m interested in working at a radio station, too.
Tell us about your favorite place in Tokyo. There are so many… I love Shimokitazawa because of all the cute, tiny shops. You can wander around the vintage clothing shops, and there are loads of live houses, which I really like. My boyfriend plays shows there a lot, so I go to take pictures. My other favorite place is Roppongi. I have friends at J-Wave, and I go there all the time for the public recording sessions. Many of the Tokyo Collections events happen at Midtown, so it’s a really exciting place for me, where my dreams can come true.
