Artificial Light and Phantom

Hiromart Gallery presents Karin Takiguchi’s “Artificial Light and Phantom”, featuring new works that represent the figment of nature that is artificial light.
Artist Statement
“I came to Oita Prefecture to produce paintings. It’s the same old, but once you move in, good things don’t always occur. We’ll see many bad things about people. Even if we get fed up with people, when the night comes, we’ll be illuminated by a light someone else has made. I think the meaning of life in civilization is to be involved with others directly and indirectly. There is a general idea of “Mimesis”. Humanity seems to be a living creature who wants to imitate something else. Artificial light could also be the one expression of the moon and fire. This group of paintings represents artificial light, which is a figment of nature, and the layers of the unknown world.”
Karin Takiguchi
Born in Yamagata, and currently living in Oita, her work revolves around her interest in ghost stories. Her painting was selected for the 58th Oita-ken-Bijyutsu exhibition in 2022. She is also a recipient of the 31st Kenshin Bijyutsu kenshin-douyukai award.
