GINZA SIX Bon Odori Festival
Aug 01, 2026 at 3:30pm ~ Aug 01, 2026 at 8:00pm
Ginza closes Chuo-dori to traffic every summer weekend, a tradition that traces back to Tokyo’s very first pedestrian zones in 1970, and on August 1 it turns the street into one big yukata-clad celebration for the 20th year running. The event, officially part of Ginza’s “Holiday Promenade,” started in 2007 as a way to lure people into the neighborhood dressed in summer’s signature cotton kimono for an evening that’s as much about the look as the lineup.
Expect the usual crowd favorites: Ginza Bon Odori turns the rooftop garden into a dance floor, while the Famous Shops Stalls bring food and drink from some of Ginza’s most renowned restaurants out into the open air, a rare chance to sample several at once without booking a single reservation. The big comeback this year is the Ginza Cool Breeze Project, a water-misting event returning after a two-year break to take the edge off the August heat. Yukata-wearers can also expect a handful of special offers and activities scattered throughout participating shops and commercial facilities along Chuo-dori.
