Oct 31, 2026 at 9:30am ~ Apr 18, 2027 at 10:00pm
The 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa presents “From Today to Tomorrow: On the Stewardship of a Work” from October 31 to April 18, 2027. It’s the last exhibition before the museum closes for renovation in May 2027.
What to Expect at “From Today to Tomorrow”
The exhibition centers on works from the museum’s collection that need ongoing care. Alongside the pieces themselves, it shows the research, repairs and equipment upgrades that keep them running.
Several works built into the museum from its opening are featured. These include James Turrell’s “Blue Planet Sky” and Patrick Blanc’s living wall, “Green Bridge.”
Kenji Yanobe’s “Viva Revival Project: Stand-Up” returns to motion after extensive repairs. Meanwhile, the theater piece “About a Room of Memory” by Chiharu Shiota and Toshiki Okada is restaged by different performers during the run.
Guest artists Kenta Ishige, Sen Takahashi and Miyu Hosoi also contribute new work.
Related Symposium
A free symposium, “Things That Break Down, Things That Are Passed Down,” takes place on Saturday, November 14, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the museum’s Theater 21. No reservation is needed.
