OK OKAPI Tokyo: Martin Andersen & Chris Bigg Exhibition

Martin Andersen and Chris Bigg bring photography, typography and decades of music design to Pocko Gallery Tokyo from Oct. 1.
“OK OKAPI” comes to Pocko Gallery Tokyo from Oct. 1 to Nov. 4, 2026. The exhibition pairs photographer and art director Martin Andersen with designer Chris Bigg.
The two first crossed paths through v23, the design studio led by Vaughan Oliver. Oliver’s work became closely tied to the visual identity of British independent label 4AD.
What to See at the “OK OKAPI” Tokyo Exhibition
Andersen and Bigg combine photography, handmade typography, graphic design and experimental image-making. Their work examines how visual design shapes the way listeners experience music.
Their combined credits span Pixies, The Breeders, Lush, David Sylvian, Kim Deal, Piroshka and Miki Berenyi Trio. Bigg also spent years working alongside Oliver as a senior designer for 4AD.
For record collectors, the exhibition offers a closer look at design beyond the music itself. Album packaging, typography and photography become part of an artist’s identity before the record even starts playing.
From 4AD to Japanese Graphic Design
Bigg’s connection with Japanese design also stretches back several decades. He and the v23 team worked with editor and photographer Kyoichi Tsuzuki on the “Street Design File” series.
v23 created the series’ overall logotype and designed several volumes. The 20-volume project documented overlooked examples of nonprofessional design from around the world.
That history gives the Tokyo edition of “OK OKAPI” an additional local connection. The show follows its London debut and brings Andersen and Bigg’s ongoing collaboration to Nishi-Azabu.
Opening Reception and Shibuya Oiran After-Party
Pocko Gallery Tokyo will hold an opening reception on Oct. 1 from 6pm to 9pm. The gallery is located at House Nishi-Azabu 5F, 2-7-5 Nishi-Azabu, Minato-ku.
The evening continues at Shibuya Oiran from 9pm. The official opening party costs ¥1,000, including 1 drink, with the artists scheduled to attend.
Shibuya Oiran will also host “OK OKAPI meets SHIBUYA OIRAN” from Oct. 1 to Nov. 3. The satellite exhibition opens Thursday–Tuesday from 7pm and closes Wednesdays.
