Feb 22, 2025 at 6:00pm ~ Feb 28, 2025 at 6:00pm

Koike Hiroshi Bridge Project: ODYSSEY (SAI Inc., Tokyo) presents the international co-production “Soul of ODYSSEY,” a theatrical adaptation of Homer’s Odyssey, at The Suzunari Theater in Shimokitazawa, Tokyo.

This production is a collaboration between Japanese theater director Hiroshi Koike and Malaysian theater company Kuala Lumpur Shakespeare Players. It blends dance, classical arts, live music, and multilingual dialogue to portray the trials and tribulations of the legendary hero, Odysseus.

Led by renowned director Hiroshi Koike, the performance features an ensemble of 14 artists from Japan and Malaysia, Malaysian musician Santosh Logandran, and Gagaku musician & saxophonist Yutaka Ota. The cast performs in their native languages of Japanese, English, Malay, Mandarin, and Cantonese. Stage art is created by award-winning contemporary artist Wataru Yamakami.

The production masterfully weaves together classical Noh, Gagaku, Wadaiko drumming, Nihon Buyo, and traditional Malaysian dance, accompanied by a dynamic visual and soundscape. A wind machine and screens created by Wataru Yamakami enhance the immersive storytelling, along with projected visual images.
