Tsukiji Hongwanji Bon Odori 2026: Summer Festival in Tokyo
Jul 29, 2026 at 6:00pm ~ Aug 01, 2026 at 9:00pm
The 79th edition of the Tsukiji Hongwanji Bon Odori 2026 fills the temple grounds for four consecutive evenings. Dancers circle the central yagura as sponsor lanterns light the compound. Food vendors from the Tsukiji area line the grounds—the temple itself bills the event as a gathering of Japan’s finest food and bon odori.
Live Taiko and Bon Dancing at Tsukiji
The Oedo Sukeroku Taiko group performs live each evening. Their bon taiko runs from late afternoon until close. A dedicated ensemble piece follows at a set time each night. The drumming carries the spirit of Edo across the whole compound and sets the pace for the dancing.
Tsukiji Hongwanji Bon Odori 2026: What to Expect
The festival takes place outdoors in the grounds of Tsukiji Hongwanji, a Jodo Shinshu Buddhist temple in central Tokyo. The Hozonkai organizing committee has staged this event annually for nearly eight decades. Children who visit the main hall each evening can receive a small candy gift at the door. No seating is provided—this is a standing, dancing event. Outside food and drinks may not be brought in. Rain may cause cancellation on any given night.
