Title notwithstanding, this is more a moody revenge melodrama with a few car chases and knife fights than it is an action thriller. Dwayne Johnson (referred to only as “Driver”) winds up ten in the pen, hops into a vintage muscle car (cool) and purposefully goes after his brother’s murderers. Billy Bob Thornton (“Cop”) is a junkie policeman following Driver’s trail of bodies, and Oliver Jackson-Cohen (“Killer”), the film’s most ridiculous character, is a self-obsessed assassin hired by persons unknown to off the Rock, etc. It all devolves into a message about forgiveness, and who goes to the movies for that?
