The annual Brazilian film fest returns for its sixth installment at Euro Space in Shibuya. The program includes Luiz Villaça’s The Story of Me (above), about a strange encounter between a French researcher and a poor, institutionalized boy, and The Famous and the Dead, an award-winning film by festival guest Esmir Filho that follows a teen in the Brazilian countryside as he attempts to connect with his hero Bob Dylan via the internet. With the world’s eyes on Brazil ahead of the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics, festival producer Tupiniquim seeks to draw Japan’s attention to the distinctive flavor of the country’s cinema.
