Fumiaki Miura and Tokyo Philharmonic Set to Perform Alexey Shor at InClassica 2025 in Dubai
'A Unity Of Nations' April 13, 2025
Fumiaki Miura, one of Japan’s most acclaimed violinists, is all set to take the stage at the 14th edition of the prestigious InClassica International Music Festival 2025 in Dubai. With a string of accolades under his belt, including his historic win at the Joseph Joachim Hannover International Violin Competition and his recognition in Forbes Asia’s 30 Under 30, the maestro will soon be embarking on a duo concerto at Dubai Opera, performing alongside US violist David Aaron Carpenter and the renowned Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, led by chief conductor Andrea Battistoni.
Titled ‘A Unity Of Nations,’ the musical extravaganza will take place on April 13, 2025, promising a memorable evening celebrating all things classical music, with a program featuring Hector Berlioz’s ‘Roman Carnival’ overture, Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8 as well as the festival’s resident composer, Alexey Shor’s Violin and Viola Concerto.
A globally-renowned contemporary composer, Shor’s works have been performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, including the Wiener Musikverein, Berlin Philharmonie, and Carnegie Hall, with many internationally acclaimed artists, such as Behzod Abduraimov, Salvatore Accardo, Ray Chen and Steven Isserli, having performed his music.
Ahead of his highly anticipated performance, Miura reflects on the festival’s significance, the value of cultural exchange through the arts, and his upcoming collaborations.
Metropolis: Are you looking forward to performing at the 14th InClassica 2025 in Dubai? What are you most excited about?
Fumiaki Miura: It’s such an honor to be a part of the upcoming edition of the InClassica International Music Festival. This festival is unique; it’s brought classical music to the UAE vibrantly and inclusively, quickly establishing a presence that reflects the region’s openness to cultural exchange and artistic development. My connection with InClassica goes back a few years, and I believe a real community surrounds this festival as it unites incredible artists with passionate audiences. The festival’s success is a testament to the organizing committee’s vision, as their work has built an event that offers an extraordinary platform, not only to established musicians but also to new voices in the realm of classical music.

M: You’ll be performing alongside David Aaron Carpenter, Andrea Battistoni, and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. Have you had the opportunity to collaborate with these musicians before?
FM: This will be my first time performing with David, Andrea, and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, and I’m looking forward to discovering the dynamics they bring to the performance. Teaming up with these incredible artists adds an extra layer of dialogue and partnership to the music, bringing a fresh challenge and expanding the expressive possibilities of the performance.

M: This year’s edition of InClassica is dedicated to the 55th birthday of Alexey Shor, who will also serve as Composer-in-Residence. What draws you to his style, and what do you believe makes his music stand out in today’s classical music scene?
FM: I have a deep admiration for Alexey Shor, as his music possesses a melodic and almost narrative quality that stands out from much of today’s contemporary repertoire, which often tends toward abstraction. His works are accessible yet carry significant depth, making them particularly engaging for audiences. Preparing his Concerto for this occasion has been a fascinating experience, and I am thoroughly enjoying exploring its colors and the emotional resonance it creates.

FM: I’m stepping into the role of music director for the Miyazaki International Music Festival, and I’m thrilled to bring my vision to fruition there. I’m also looking forward to performances with the Ark Philharmonic, as well as exploring my conducting skills with other orchestras.
