A new exhibition at the space-age Miraikan in Odaiba considers the timely topics of food safety, diet and the environment through the lens of cutting-edge science. But before the museum gets to these weighty topics, it lightens the atmosphere with “Menu 1,” a section that allows viewers to grasp the mechanisms behind why people feel that certain foods are delicious through gustatory physiology, brain science and food physics. Visits to the Miraikan should be made on the Yurikamome line, which features a driverless train that winds across the Rainbow Bridge and offers breathtaking views of Tokyo Bay. Don’t forget to sit at the very front.
