Shiori Ichikawa Exhibition in Tokyo: “things happened”
Aug 28, 2026 at 12:00pm ~ Sep 20, 2026 at 4:00pm
Paintings inspired by encounters with urban animals come to K ART GALLERY in Omotesando from Aug. 28
Shiori Ichikawa presents her solo exhibition “things happened” at K ART GALLERY from Aug. 28 to Sept. 20, 2026. The Tokyo exhibition centers on paintings inspired by animals Ichikawa has encountered in the city.
She combines those real encounters with imagined narratives and personal interpretation. The resulting works ask viewers to consider emotions that cannot be directly observed or expressed through language.
Shiori Ichikawa Paints Encounters With Urban Animals
Ichikawa’s work often examines the relationship between humans and other living creatures.
For “things happened,” she begins with brief scenes she has witnessed in the city. She then imagines what the animals involved might have experienced or felt.
Rather than presenting these interpretations as fact, the paintings leave room for uncertainty. Ichikawa describes empathy and imagination as central to how viewers engage with the creatures depicted.
Ichikawa completed her master’s degree in printmaking at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2018. Her practice includes painting, drawing and silkscreen printmaking.
