Few recent books on Japan have caused as big a stir as Tokyo Vice, Jake Adelstein’s warts-and-all account of his days as a crime reporter for the Yomiuri Shimbun. Fresh off appearances on 60 Minutes and The Daily Show, the US-born Adelstein returns to Japan for a discussion at Good Day Books in Ebisu. On the slate is a reading of an unpublished chapter from Tokyo Vice called “Synchronicity and the Lazy Journalist,” as well as an exploration of the world of Japanese yakuza fan magazines, complete with illustrations.
