A decade ago, British journalist Mary King and her Japanese partner Etsuko Shimabukuro walked 7,500 kilometers from northern Hokkaido to Yonagunijima, Japan’s westernmost island. Along the way they met strippers, a shamaness, hunters, farmers, pilgrims and Hidden Christians. In King’s new Japan on Foot: Two Women Walk Japan, the former Asahi Shimbun travel editor finally tells the story. Meet the author and hear her tales in two Tokyo book launch events.
