Kyoto is so beloved by its citizens, Japanese people nationwide and the folks around the world that it could arguably be called “Japan’s hometown.” A visit is requisite for anyone in Japan longer than a week. But if you don’t have time to get out of Tokyo, Kyoaruki (“walking in Kyoto”) brings the culture, tradition and food of Japan’s old capital to its new one for a two-week period. Events include authentic maiko (apprentice geisha) handing out Kyoto travel pamphlets, a seminar on the city’s omotenashi on February 4 and lessons on how to tie furoshiki cloths (¥1,000). Kyoto sweets and souvenirs will also be on offer at various venues.
Feb 4-19. Various venues in Ginza and Marunouchi. http://kyoaruki.jp
