Japan’s only electronica event launched by a dance performance team (as opposed to a promoter or DJ), Mitte has a decidedly different vibe from other techno and house parties. The showcase was created in 2007 by Meisai, an inventive electronic street-dance crew that performs—sometimes in gas masks—at events like Fuji Rock Festival and Wire. For the upcoming 14th edition, they’ve invited two of the cream of Japan’s dance-music crop in the form of techno veteran Hiroshi Watanabe and sampladelic downtempo maestro O.N.O., who will be presenting one of his “Machine Live” sets.
