Ordinary documentary about an extraordinary high-school basketball team, the Fighting Irish of St. Vincent-St. Mary in Akron, Ohio. Kristopher Belman’s filmmaking may be pedestrian, but his insight and timing couldn’t be better. He caught on to the skills of a quintet of kid B-ball players while they were still in the eighth grade, one of whom happened to be named LeBron James, a man considered by many to be the top player in the NBA today. Comprises five years of home-movie footage and present-day interviews. What impressed me was not the playing, but the bond of friendship among these kids. Worthwhile.
