If, like most thinking folk, you found Avatar’s plot as simple as a reality show participant and the whole 3D thing tremendously annoying, then you won’t welcome Sony’s latest piece of kit designed to spread the 3D gospel wider than ever.
The MPE-200 multimedia processor is a semi-pro video-processing deck designed for manipulating film shot by the stereo camera setups needed for that 3D effect. Essentially, it takes the footage and makes sure everything lines up properly in terms of the orientation of the two images.
At ¥2,625,000, it should allow even college filmmakers to bother us with pointy objects coming out of the screen, which is actually a rather depressing prospect. Still, it uses the same processor as Sony’s PlayStation 3 console, so that’s all right then.
