Jim Broadbent and Lindsay Duncan have never been better

On what was to be a nostalgic attempt to celebrate 30 years of complex but affectionate marriage, Brits Jim Broadbent and Lindsay Duncan (never better) travel to Paris to revisit the scenes of their honeymoon. The trip reveals both their strong bond and some half-buried fissures.

As movies about the gently aging go, you could view this as an antidote to fluff like The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. It’s well crafted, intelligent, mischievous, melancholy and even profound. A memorable dinner party scene in which things come to a head is alone worth the price of admission. Also a superb Jeff Goldblum.
