A man, Victor, finds himself marooned at Narita by a snowstorm that prevents him from accomplishing his father’s last wish—to have his ashes scattered in Sapporo, a city he had dreamed of visiting but was unable to. With Victor is Jorge, his father’s ex-husband and a man Victor believes wrecked his family. Written by Mexican playwright Ramiro Torres de Miguel, Narita Airport looks at “modern/assembled” families through the prism of the hell of modern travel. Featuring a Japanese cast who spice their dialog with English, it’s the first in a new series of plays by young Latin talents slated for Japan.
New National Theater, Tokyo, Feb 24-26 (listing).
