In its traditional start to the New Year, the New National Theatre presents two evenings of ballet and opera. The program opens with Pas des Fiances, featuring new compositions from the late, great British choreographer Jack Carter set to hallowed music from Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake. Next up is the “Grand Café” sequence from 20th-century French legend Roland Petit’s La Chauve-Souris. The opera segment includes selections from Verdi’s Aida, Rigoletto and La Traviata, as well as Offenbach’s Les Contes D’Hoffmann and Puccini’s Manon Lescaut. Sopranos Norma Fantini and Hiroko Kouda will sing opposite tenor Zoran Todorovich and baritone Yasuo Horiuchi.
