With a recent hike in cigarette taxes, and new restrictions on smoking in restaurants and bars, Japanese tobacco lovers are feeling besieged. So it’s no surprise that the motto of Filt, a free entertainment-lifestyle magazine focusing on butts and booze, is “LIVE AND LET LIVE!” The latest edition of the bimonthly glossy features a profile of bestselling novelist (and avid smoker) Shotaro Ikenami, as well as a selection of “kanpai trivia” from around the world. Also included are tips on how to blow “classy” smoke rings and reviews of products like a smartphone case with a built-in ashtray. But Filt is not all about the vice: among the heavyweight actors making an appearance are Shun Ogura (right) and Takako Matsu.
