Biscuit Gallery presents “Remain / Still,” a solo exhibition by Takahiro Matsumoto, running September 5 – 20, 2026. It marks Matsumoto’s first solo show at the gallery in two years, following 2024’s “see you again.”
Matsumoto is a sculptor who carves camphor wood and colors his figures with acrylic, oil paint, pencil, and charcoal. His quiet, distinctive figures hold the viewer’s gaze far longer than their stillness would suggest.
In his artist statement, Matsumoto describes the human form that emerges from carving and stripping away wood as no specific person, but an image of human existence itself—and, at the same time, a reflection of himself. What remains, he writes, is what quietly endures, holding its balance within instability, offering viewers a space to reflect on their own existence.
