Two of the most sweet-voiced yet politically aware singer-songwriters of the French-speaking world debut in Tokyo as part of the French Institute’s annual Ongaku no Hi (Music Day). Paris-born, Madagascar-raised jaSz (sic) blends jazz, folk and chanson. She arrives with her new disc Metro, which as its name suggests was recorded on a Paris metro station. Also on the bill is Ayo, whose acoustic guitar and entrancing voice are velvet weapons for the delivery of barbed political messages. Ongaku no Hi is one of the French Institute’s most popular events, each year bringing out hundreds of Francophiles.
