If you’ve been to a Warner cinema in Japan, you probably didn’t catch swine flu there. That’s because the theater chain is currently trialing Sanyo’s Virus Washer air conditioning, which strips the living heck out of that filthy old outside air.

So successful has the trial been, Sanyo has now inked a deal to export the technology to the US, where it’s just been installed in Mann Theaters’ Criterion 6 cinema in Santa Monica. If all goes well—and Sanyo says it removes 99 percent of bacteria, viruses and pollen from the air—the Virus Washer could soon be securing the health of the glitterati at those red-carpet premieres over at Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Tinseltown, too.
