Looking for the perfect autumn event to wind down and enjoy some great music? Sound & Chair Music Festival has you covered. From November 1 to 10, this free outdoor festival will transform the Tama River banks in Kawasaki into a hub of craft beer, live music and vinyl culture. Known as the birthplace of vinyl records, Kawasaki sets the perfect scene for this one-of-a-kind festival.

Here’s a deeper look at what makes Sound & Chair the ideal weekend escape.

Live Performances and DJ Sets

Music lovers, you’re in for a treat. Over 13 live artists and 28 DJs will perform throughout the 10-day event, offering an impressive lineup.

Expect performances from Takuro Okada, known for his creative soundscapes, alongside Tatsuhisa Yamamoto, one of Japan’s top drummers. Fans of ambient and electronic music will also appreciate Yosi Horikawa, whose unique style blends recorded natural sounds into his tracks. For something more immersive, check out HIKOKONAMI’s sound bath sessions. Don’t miss TAMTAM known for experimental pop and ermhoi + marty holoubek, who will bring a special fusion of Japanese sounds and percussion.

Sip Your Way Through 50+ Varieties of Craft Beer

With over 50 different brews on tap from 16 microbreweries based in the Tama River area, it’s a beer lover’s paradise. Whether you’re a fan of light, refreshing lagers or you prefer deep, complex brews, grab a drink, sit back and enjoy the music. Sound & Chair Music Festival will also have plenty of food on offer, so you can make a full day out of it with friends or family.

Vinyl Record Market

Kawasaki is known for its vinyl roots, so it’s no surprise that vinyl culture plays a huge role in this festival. Weekends and holidays feature a record market where local and international labels like BBE Music and Gondwana Records will showcase their best.

Plus, you’ll find rare gems and plenty of used records up for grabs. On November 3, don’t miss the premiere of a short documentary on the history of vinyl records in Japan, presented by Audio-Technica.
