Japan-based photojournalist and travel author Stephen Mansfield leads a discussion of his new work, Japanese Stone Gardens, in the cozy confines of Good Day Books in Ebisu. Mansfield will detail some of the challenges faced in compiling the book, which took six years to complete, while discussing design elements, aesthetics and the approaches he took in researching and photographing the gardens. “I’ll be giving a small number of very brief readings,” the author says, “and explaining one of the main themes of the work: that the most accomplished stone gardens do not imitate nature, but transcend it.”
