To stand out these days, zombie movies have to be parodies (like Shawn of the Dead or Zombieland) or seriously different and scary (28 Days Later). Hardcore zombie buffs will find all the right ingredients in this admittedly well-crafted but completely unnecessary and tame remake of a 1973 George Romero flick. But even the most rabid fan of the genre will be hard put to find anything remotely original. And anyway, the creatures are not even real undead zombies, but still-living neighbors who have caught a crazy disease. They’re just not very interesting.
